It was very fitting that the number one song on the radio was Empire State of Mind when we went to NYC. We sang it frequently as we were trying to make our way through the cold and windy city.
So here’s the deal .. our next door neighbors (like we’re talking next door next door) daughter is a Rockette. Crazy. We had always planned on getting there and watching her but it’s always so crazy and busy around Christmas. Plus we have a 3 year old boychild named Dane. But then we find out it’s her last year and all of a sudden we had decisions to make. So literally over dinner one night we decide to do it and everything fell into place. We had to drive and sleep cheap and FREEZE and go broke but it was so so so worth it. The kids loved it. I will never forget Brynn screaming in awe and delight during the 3D part of the show. Totally made me cry.
Here are some of the first few pics I took. Look at Ellie in the top middle … we were in the Lincoln tunnel and I just told her we were under the river, lol.

Seriously, probably their favorite part of the whole trip was riding the subway. And come to think of it - it was probably mine too. I love the musicians and mosaics and we were out of the wind and could just sit down and people watch and I could play with the speed setting on my camera, lol. Now that is a good time.

I love this set. The train jerked and Brynn plowed into the back of Ellie on the right:)
Wanna see the bathrooms in Radio City Hall (top left shot of Brynn)? In your head you would think they were nice, right? At least updated once since they opened their doors in 1932 (googled) right? Would you believe the bathroom decorating committee chose seafoam green tiles with mint green sinks? I completely expected Marilyn Monroe to come out of one of the stalls. Check out the hand dryer - probably used to be state of the art:) I wanted to get better shots but it starts getting uncomfortable when you whip out a camera in a bathroom.
Where NOT to take your kids in NYC. I feel awful for telling you this. I feel like I’m telling you not to go to church but the Museum of Natural History was awful. We unfortunately and stupidly thought we were going to walk in and hang with Ben Stiller and Robin Williams and talk to Dum Dum and throw the bone to the dinosaur. Didn’t happen. Sacagawea wasn’t even there or Owen Wilson. The dinosaur wasn’t even at the entrance (GASP)! The kids were so let down and disappointed. Brad and I weren’t at all. But it gets even worse - you spend so much blessed money getting in (something like $150ish because they sucker you with the “special” exhibits and you think what the hell I’m at Night at the Museum in New York City!) that you stay there forever trying to get your money’s worth. Hindsight is sooooo 20/20.

Love these two of this perty daughter of mine…the light was so perfect….

And last but not least of this giant post. One of my favorites of Brad and I ever taken by Ellie - which adds to the love. I love Brad in New York. It’s where he belongs. But instead he is so stuck in suburbia, working corporate, with 4 kids and a boxy house with fabulous stamped ceilings.

I bet some of you recognize this family by now. I can’t wait to put together some sort of photo collage for Ishaan’s two year. I have taken his picture every 3 months since he was born:) What a privilege.
I would do anything for Rashmi (mom). She has blabbity blabbed about me from day one. Whenever I go to their home it is hilarious because I can wave and say hi to about 8 of their neighbors that have also used me. Gotta love that! And I love the hour I get to spend with her during the shoot and when I drop off the disc. Girl can break it down real quick and get to the meat. Love that.
Here is darling little sweet Ishaan with eyes that melt your heart…..

Here is Taj who is flat out on the train to crazytown and.I.love.him. He told me he loved me too. He is wicked smart. I always feel like a gerbil that has been on a wheel after being with Taj. That just made me laugh. You have to talk and move very quickly to keep up with him because he is on the road to some sort of nuclearphysicalrocketsciencechemical position. He is the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs dude. When I got there (an indoor conservatory) he had taken control of the plant watering device and was telling the plant waterer man how it was done, lol. I look over at Rashmi and she is just sitting there rolling her eyes. Done. Over it.
Love these images from their session…

You know I love the shots of just the mom and dad! Guru - my son (he is sitting here bothering me) would like you to know that you have 27 letters in your name. Did you know that?
Group shot!

Fitting shots for the end….
Taj was going to get himself some mac and cheese or else!

Begs me to watch “Scooby Doo Pirates” with him every morning. He has probably watched it 60 times easy. Embarrassing. Don’t judge.
While watching he loves to hurl his body onto mine and wrestle, tickle, giggle, tackle, laugh, rest and then start all over again.
Needs frequent reminders that mommies feel pain.
Thought I would document it. Wish I had authentic shots like this with all of my kids. Don’t even remember what I did with the other three which makes me super sad:(

after dropping the big kids off at their schools I come home and see bowls of cereal, fingerprints, hair doodads and an important piece of paper someone forgot to pack……..
Then I round the corner and wave at my wavers. Yes I collect wavers. You see them right when you walk in my house. They wave at you. One day I will have 5 or 7 (I only collect in odd numbers). I was looking for a new waver when I got my 2nd ticket in 2 months last weekend. I turned into an entrance designed for oncoming traffic. I’ll own it. So if you live in Columbus and find a waver let me know. Nothing hokey pokey from Cracker Barrel either.
See that frame? Love it. My sister and brother (had to give him a little credit) in law got it for us for Christmas. I love it so much it gives me anxiety on what print to put in it. Plus we aren’t sure if it looks okay (the color) with the piece of furniture it will hang over or if it fights with the piece of furniture. I think it will end up over our bed.

Next I go up the stairs, take a deep breathe and look into Jackson’s room. He is such a dirty bird. Yes, we make him clean it up. We deprive him of TV and weapons when he doesn’t, but it’s an everyday cycle. Most the time I go in and at least get his clothes.
Then I look into the bathroom and make sure Bear is still alive. He is today (with the longest piece of poop ever hanging out of him). In a few days we will put him back in with the other fish. In about a month we will wake up to find him hanging on for dear life after being pummeled all night by his “friends”. So we rescue him, put him in the hospital (where he is now), he will float upside down for a day, turn over, breathe heavy on the bottom for a day, heal for another two days and then we put him back and they leave him alone for another month. WEIRDNESS in the fish kingdom at the Blackstone’s. We are on about our 4th cycle with this.
Next to him is a Toad. Yep.
Then I go shut these drawers that Brad leaves open every single day. You want to know why? Because he doesn’t want to wake me in the morning. The hardware on the drawers are loud. He is a good man that Mr. Blackstone. That framed print has been sitting there for 3 years. Maybe we’ll hang it one day. And that gold door knob goes against my every grain and fiber.
And then I get to hang out with this squishy scrumptious little boy. Oh how he loves his pirates, bear and thumb right now….
