About Cathy Blackstone
I am a natural light photographer based in Columbus, Ohio specializing in family and high school Senior photography. However, I also love, and shoot, a lot of engagement, maternity, birth story and fresh 48 sessions.
I like my sessions to have a wide variety of shots. I love to catch the candid moments but I also love to pose you. I try and make my sessions tons of fun right from the start to relax everyone. You are going to squish and kiss and laugh and run and roll around because the main goal is to capture your family just being themselves. If you have a silly kid, I want them to be silly. If you have a serious kid, I want them to be serious. And by all means, I want your snarky kid to have a temper tantrum. I live for the kid that storms off and pouts!
When you look back at your pictures I want you to remember life as it was - kids being themselves and not always perfect. I want you to remember what the “now” looked like. Just be yourselves and I’ll catch it.
I went from having the lifelong dream of becoming a marine biologist (college Chemistry classes changed that) to getting a teachers degree and teaching inner city middle school for ten years, which I absolutely loved. From there, I became a stay at home mom who fell hard for the scrapbooking craze, and who on a whim, entered, and won, a national contest. I was picked up by Better Homes and Gardens to work on their scrapbook magazine's creative team. Since my photos were now being published every month, I had to step up my photography game. This led to friends asking me to take pictures of their family and here we are. Crazy!!!
I’ve been married to Brad, the greatest man and baby daddy ever, for 20 easy years now and I really, really, REALLY still like and love him. Together we’ve created four amazing, athletic, hilarious and independent children who we have a hard time keeping up with. Even though many of our weekends are a crazy hot mess, we love the chaos.
I love the sound and smell of the beach as much as the energy and vibe of NYC. I love chicken tacos at the Jalisco taco truck on Cleveland Ave. I love trees alone in fields. I love birds on wires. I love a good documentary. But above all, I love hanging out with my family. I’ll drop everything, instantly, for a walk or ice cream with them.
