HI! I'M CATHY BLACKSTONE.

I am a Columbus based photographer and welcome to my blog.

I love to photograph babies in the tummy, babies out of the tummy, kids being good, kids being bad, kids with special needs, kids with fur, couples in love, families being themselves and seniors in between text messages :)

I have a fun and carefree style that I think you will be very comfortable with. Of course I love to take the classic picture where everyone is looking at the camera with a perfect smile but what I really love to catch is the real "in between" moments. The candid moments that you will cherish forever.

This is my photo blog where I will share favorite images from recent sessions and blab about my interests and family.

Thanks for visiting my site and taking a look. I really appreciate it.

SNOW DAY!

this girl

always dancing. always. i can’t tell you how many times we have stopped what we are doing to spy on her on the trampoline while she’s cuttin’ a rug. or peeked around the corner only to be caught and then she’s embarrassed but it doesn’t stop her:) just tonight at Target she was doing some wild routine down the aisle.

LOVE.THIS.ABOUT.HER.

my goal this summer is to find her a class where all they do is rock it down. no costume fee. no recital fee. no makeup fee. no sequins fee. just a class where kids are taught some high energy hip hop dances and hopefully led by someone with dreadlocks and tattoos. it is so frustrating that they don’t exist. please someone tell me if you know of something like this.

so a couple days ago we had a snow day. she made it a snow/dance day complete with her inside out pajamas that she wore the night before with hopes of a snow day (school age folklore). it worked!

dane had to bust a few moves – he had moved on from his inside out pajamas to his Halloween costume, lol.untitled-19untitled-26untitled-35how great are these pictures going to be during her 8th grade graduation slideshow??untitled-42untitled-52

October 14, 2014 - 9:20 am Gertha Setler - I'm not sure exactly why but this website is loading extremely slow for me. Is anyone else having this problem or is it a problem on my end? I'll check back later and see if the problem still exists.

August 27, 2014 - 3:34 pm Walter Kasuboski - Everything is very open with a precise explanation of the challenges. It was really informative. Your site is extremely helpful. Many thanks for sharing!

September 13, 2011 - 2:21 pm bobby - AND PIZZA ON THE SIDE OF HIS MOUTH :)

September 13, 2011 - 2:19 pm bobby - OH MY GOODNESS SOOOO CUTE

March 3, 2011 - 12:24 pm Zoe - Love love love all the new pics you've posted. The senior pics are fantastic....what I wouldn't give to have had pics like that instead of me posing in the cheesiest pose possible in front of a plastic 9 and 2. The vaca pics are unbelievable. Best pics ever. Most gorgeous children ever. Ever. Ever. Did you hear me say Ever? Also, you are officially mother of the year for letting your kids get that messy in the sand and taking pics of it/savoring it/loving it.

March 1, 2011 - 5:30 am lori - and you'll be the mom who can find them for the slideshow! The rest of us dig around for hours! Such a beautiful Dancing Queen, and her attendant is handsome indeed!

February 1, 2011 - 12:47 pm Grandma Ellis - I really miss seeing all the dancing and expressions on those little faces. Special time Hope you all don't get snowed in for too long. We have ice all over the place. I am not going out! mom

THE BENACK FAMILY | columbus, ohio family photographer

Sometimes the little quote, “all things happen for a reason” is so so true.

If my first session with this family wasn’t such an epic failure then my second session with the most beautiful light of the season wouldn’t have happened:)

So the first session…rain was coming. But in Ohio that means there is a 50% chance. As I was driving to their session I could see the storm front perfectly – like you do on the beach. My intelligent self thought we could out run it and at least get family pics with the daddy (because he took off from work) and then reschedule to get the kids later. So to make a long story short we HAULED down High St. until we got to Scioto Downs!! CRAZY. Well, with a storm comes wind –  and it was windy and crazy and the rain swallowed us up 10 minutes into it. We tried! and at least I got this image which I love…img_3730bwblog

We rescheduled. Beautiful, beautiful weather and night. Best light EVER.

I met Brooke at a party where we were both pregnant and not drinking. Thought I would throw that in there. Whenever I see her I always remember that night – I was SICK in my first trimester with Dane I think. Ugh.

Anna (scrumptious little girl) MOVES. Brooke and I were hot, singing exhausted messes trying to corral her, lol.  Love the shot in the center. I try to get a shot every session where all you see is face in my lens. Sometimes they turn out – most the time they don’t. This is the one that would be BIG in my house.untitled-17

Something about this one makes me really happy too. Almost trashed it but kept coming back to it….img_0356blog

January 28, 2011 - 1:39 pm Kim Whybrew - LOVE these Cath!! That first shot is so great (others too)!

January 26, 2011 - 5:29 pm Beth - Yep, love that last one too

PORKIES AND BEANS | dane’s definitions

Just in case anything happens to me …

like I finally give in to Justin (Timberlake) and run away with him (he’s been BEGGING)….

or like I end up in the Caribbean somewhere alone, by myself, warm, able to complete sentences and thoughts and maybe read my first book in 12 years…

or like I end up in the psych ward for a few weeks because my 12 year old thought it would be a swell idea to hold the new pet baby rat in the car on the way home from the pet store – that thing lept like a bullfrog and is currently hanging out pooping and peeing and chewing on wires under the dash….(update – caught – outwitted by my sensational husband)

I just want to make sure someone knows that if Dane is crying – and I mean CRYING – because he has “porkies in his legs” – it means that his leg or foot fell asleep and feels prickly. Porkie is Danish for prickly. And it usually happens in the car.

And if he asks for a “bean” – it means he wants a smokehouse flavored almond. Bean is Danish for almond.

February 3, 2011 - 11:49 am Sampson - Awwww...that's what my daughter called those prickly weeds out in the yard...the "porkie plants".....

January 27, 2011 - 8:52 am Keri Rammelsberg - I think i just peed a little reading this. We are living the same life. :)

January 25, 2011 - 11:46 am Nikki - When my God-son's hand first fell asleep while he slept he woke up crying. He said it was 'sticky'. His mom had no clue what was wrong, seeing as it wasn't sticky, but had him wash his hands anyway. This probably woke the hand up. From then on when something fell asleep he wanted to wash it because it too was sticky. It took a long time for mom to figure this one out! I love the foreign languages of children! Classic!

January 24, 2011 - 8:07 pm Leslie - So glad someone else thinks of these things :) Like I'm constantly repeating everything Colin says right now because I swear I'm the only person who understands what he's saying. God forbid Justin decides to give me a call instead...lol.

January 24, 2011 - 11:31 am Elisa - You are so funny. Love you!

THE KARR FAMILY | columbus, ohio family photographer

Momma is Misty – niece of my neighbor Linda who I love:)

This is the second time a family has hired me to take pictures on a farm. Pure magic. Something about the way the light falls on the rolling hills … makes my job really really easy. I love to pick the places for family photos but I also love it when the family picks the place – especially if it means something to them.

The only direction she gave me was to take natural shots where they weren’t looking into the camera. Gotta love that.

untitled-16untitled-121

How adorable are they? Her husband Scott is in the Marines?? (half-listener) and has already been gone one year and will have to be gone for over another year within a year (something like that – I know I’m close). Anyway I have the highest respect for both of them. I about jumped off the ledge last week when Brad was gone for a mere 3 days. Wives of soldiers always give me perspective when Brad is gone. untitled-34untitled-41

It was sweet to watch Scott put Rylan to sleep. First for me to watch a dad take a baby and shush and pat his butt to sleep. Loved that.

Gma and Gpa jumped in for a few. LOVE the tree. It had such character. Reminded me of something you might see in the Lion King — right? Or is it Disney? Anyway the tree was dreamy and I love how Rylan’s feet are poking out around Misty’s back and the photo on the right is my favorite. Call me strange but that is the one that would be BIG in my house:)untitled-51

One of my favorite extended family shots evah…Gma reminded me a lot of my mom – knew all the nursery jingles – had a little bit of crazy and spice in her.img_0324blog

Adorable adorable Miss Lina….img_0177blog
