HI! I'M CATHY BLACKSTONE.

I am a Columbus based photographer and welcome to my blog.

I love to photograph babies in the tummy, babies out of the tummy, kids being good, kids being bad, kids with special needs, kids with fur, couples in love, families being themselves and seniors in between text messages :)

I have a fun and carefree style that I think you will be very comfortable with. Of course I love to take the classic picture where everyone is looking at the camera with a perfect smile but what I really love to catch is the real "in between" moments. The candid moments that you will cherish forever.

This is my photo blog where I will share favorite images from recent sessions and blab about my interests and family.

Thanks for visiting my site and taking a look. I really appreciate it.

EVERY MORNING…..

after dropping the big kids off at their schools I come home and see bowls of cereal, fingerprints, hair doodads and an important piece of paper someone forgot to pack……..img_5113

Then I round the corner and wave at my wavers. Yes I collect wavers. You see them right when you walk in my house. They wave at you. One day I will have 5 or 7 (I only collect in odd numbers). I was looking for a new waver when I got my 2nd ticket in 2 months last weekend. I turned into an entrance designed for oncoming traffic. I’ll own it. So if you live in Columbus and find a waver let me know. Nothing hokey pokey from Cracker Barrel either.

See that frame? Love it. My sister and brother (had to give him a little credit) in law got it for us for Christmas. I love it so much it gives me anxiety on what print to put in it. Plus we aren’t sure if it looks okay (the color) with the piece of furniture it will hang over or if it fights with the piece of furniture. I think it will end up over our bed.

Next I go up the stairs, take a deep breathe and look into Jackson’s room. He is such a dirty bird. Yes, we make him clean it up. We deprive him of TV and weapons when he doesn’t, but it’s an everyday cycle. Most the time I go in and at least get his clothes.img_5105

Then I look into the bathroom and make sure Bear is still alive. He is today (with the longest piece of poop ever hanging out of him). In a few days we will put him back in with the other fish. In about a month we will wake up to find him hanging on for dear life after being pummeled all night by his “friends”. So we rescue him, put him in the hospital (where he is now), he will float upside down for a day, turn over, breathe heavy on the bottom for a day, heal for another two days and then we put him back and they leave him alone for another month. WEIRDNESS in the fish kingdom at the Blackstone’s. We are  on about our 4th cycle with this.

Next to him is a Toad. Yep.img_5103

Then I go shut these drawers that Brad leaves open every single day. You want to know why? Because he doesn’t want to wake me in the morning. The hardware on the drawers are loud. He is a good man that Mr. Blackstone. That framed print has been sitting there for 3 years. Maybe we’ll hang it one day. And that gold door knob goes against my every grain and fiber.img_5104

And then I get to hang out with this squishy scrumptious little boy. Oh how he loves his pirates, bear and thumb right now….img_5050-blogimg_5058-blog

March 2, 2010 - 7:40 am Tina - That is an absurdly gorgeous picture of the cereal bowl and frame, Cathy! Love the toad hurricane - but our murderous cat (who has 2 rainforest frogs under his belt already) would not leave it alone for long. Thanks for perking me up this morning.

March 1, 2010 - 5:58 pm apryl - sweet post:)

February 26, 2010 - 4:24 pm Lisa Scherer - Love this post! Ok, do you seriously have a living toad living in that hurricane in your bathroom? That is the coolest thing. I would love to know how that works....my daughter is a HUGE animal lover and wants a toad...but I don't want a big ugly terraium in her bedroom....now a beautiful hurricane I could maybe handle that. :) Sorry for the long post.

ETHAN | columbus, ohio family photography

Next door neighbors of my bff. I always know what is happening with them through Susan …. ex: Katie is pregnant …. they are having a boy …. his name is going to be Ethan ….. Katie and Mark had their baby!

Have totally enjoyed getting to know them – good peeps.

We always meet unplanned over the fire pit. – I always try to take shots of their first baby Jake (dog) that is calm yet never stops moving. He’s a challenge. He smells good. He always has a big ball half way down his throat. Gives me the gag reflex, lol.

It was such a pleasure shooting this adorable, sleepy, squishy little boy with big eyes. I am loving the babies lately. They adore him. It is so refreshing to see couples with their first child. The baby talk. The sleepy yet peaceful faces. The questions they ask each other, “Is he hungry”?, “Is he cold? – I think he’s cold”. Love it.

Mark’s daughter Caitlin – a little bit of an age gap between his kids, lol.img_4023-3985

Umm, I’ve got news for you…… Striderite and Wal Mart have the best selection of shoes for wide feet. I know this, and little E has got some wide adorable piggies!

Thanks Katie and Mark:) That was SO fun. Look for your slideshow in the next couple of days…..

February 23, 2010 - 2:29 pm Kim - great pictures Cath!

February 22, 2010 - 6:29 pm susan reimer - OMG Cathy! These are beautiful!! Ethan is such good looking little baby...but come on...look at the parents! I LOVE the one of his feet, and the one of Katie putting on his diaper...it should be a "huggies ad" in a magazine!!You did such a great job of capturing how beautiful this family truley is with their new babyboy!!! LOVE THEM!!! :)

SLEDDING AT THE REIMERS

So Phil (bf’s husband) snowblows his front yard into a luge course. He’s crazy like that. It’s so entertaining to watch him groom and slick it up with water out of the watering can. It’s been his special little winter project for 3 years now and we had yet to go over and try it out (because it’s a pain in the butt to get 4 kids over there in snow clothes).

SO fun.

They even had their boombox playing in the corner of the porch. I would never think of that by the way. I would never think to bring music outside in the snow yet it added so much to the fun. So while you look at these imagine Lady GaGa singing in the background and the kids doing little jigs as they waited for their turn:)

And I totally spaced out and didn’t get a shot of the whole shibang – next time I will so you can get perspective of how big this thing is. It rocked. My kids are still talking about it.

October 12, 2014 - 2:29 pm Kudzma - With havin so much content and articles do you ever run into any issues of plagorism or copyright violation? My site has a lot of completely unique content I've either created myself or outsourced but it appears a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet without my agreement. Do you know any solutions to help reduce content from being ripped off? I'd definitely appreciate it.

August 27, 2014 - 3:33 pm Jeanette - What's up to every one, the contents present at this website are in fact awesome for people knowledge, well, keep up the good work fellows.

February 17, 2010 - 5:38 pm Sam - Adorable snow pics! Cannot get over how big Olivia has gotten! Feels like I've seen her grow up on your scrapbook pages . . . time flies :)

ALEXANDER | columbus, ohio baby photographer

I have known Alex’s mom Sam for what feels like forever even though it’s only been about 8 years. I used to teach scrapbooking classes and she used to come to a lot of them. Bottom line – when you teach scrapbooking classes you get to know a lot of amazing women really really really really well. As strange as it sounds it’s like therapy. It’s like going to a support group. A man couldn’t possibly understand but when you put 20 crafty women in a room together every week you start talking. And before you know it you know who’s scissors are whose, who is getting married, who should be getting divorced, who is getting divorced, who survived cancer, who spends too much money, who will never be happy, who is always happy, who is crazy ……. and I am just skimming the surface.

Sam has known me through 3 pregnancies and when I am with child or post child I hide nothing. I can’t. I don’t have that personality and neither does Sam. The second we see each other we break it down fast. Not much fluff in our conversations and I love that. It was so great to catch up with her and get to know her husband better. Good peeps. Real. Authentic. Fun afternoon watching her be a mom – something she is already really good at:)

Thanks again Sam for asking me. Really. So fun to see how your long journey ended. Can’t wait to watch him grow and terrorize you and listen to what you have to say about it, lol.

Tell me which is your favorite…..and how cute is he hanging over your shoulder?

February 18, 2010 - 2:12 pm Angela Creech - Oh, my goodness! How do you pick the "best" when they're all so wonderful? What precious photographs of a precious family. God's blessings to all. Angie Creech
