HI! I'M CATHY BLACKSTONE.

I am a Columbus based photographer and welcome to my blog.

I love to photograph babies in the tummy, babies out of the tummy, kids being good, kids being bad, kids with special needs, kids with fur, couples in love, families being themselves and seniors in between text messages :)

I have a fun and carefree style that I think you will be very comfortable with. Of course I love to take the classic picture where everyone is looking at the camera with a perfect smile but what I really love to catch is the real "in between" moments. The candid moments that you will cherish forever.

This is my photo blog where I will share favorite images from recent sessions and blab about my interests and family.

Thanks for visiting my site and taking a look. I really appreciate it.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY:) | flavor flav style

This dog makes me sit around and think of ways to decorate him:) I really do daydream about what I can wrap around him and hang from his neck and put on his head. It’s a problem. I am a total eye roller towards people that dress their dogs and I am on the verge of becoming one.

March 11, 2010 - 1:01 pm Sampson - I was intrigued about the "Flavour Flav" and laughed out loud when I saw the huge heart around your dog's neck. HILARIOUS! Flavour Flav says Owwwwww!!

February 14, 2010 - 8:50 pm Missy - I think I may have told you this before...but my family is so in love with your dog:)

WINTER, VELVET, TEARS, SKIRTS, and a DELICIOUS BABY | a week at the blackstone’s

img_2769HOLY WINTER!

I don’t mind winter if there is snow. Well we got snow. About a foot. Brad threw his back out shoveling, lol. I JUST got an email that it popped back in. The subject of the email was YES! I was so hoping he finally won the lottery (he plays every week) but instead his back popped back in.

Here is the pretend shot of the four of them that makes me look like a fantastic mother with well behaved children:)

Here is reality. The frame before …… and it is ALWAYS Jackson. ALWAYS. Not the baby. Not the drama queen. Jackson. Always.

Here is a shot of Dane after Brad rolled over his head sledding ….

Better times…..

My brown piece of precious velvet love got a haircut.

Some of you might find it cruel to shave a dog in the middle of winter. Brad went back and forth on it. Brad felt bad for him. but Brad lives at work. I live at home. Brad didn’t ever have to deal with Sasquatch coming back inside after his playdate with the snow. I did. It looked a little like this……

img_0324-copy

This magnificent beast likes to throw his toys up in the air and try to catch them. If he misses well then he likes to run, roll, pounce, and burrow through the snow until he finds them. We call it orca and seal because it looks like the footage of the killer whale throwing the seal up in the air and playing with it before he has it for dinner.

This magnificent beast had to come back inside after he was done playing. Guess who had to be waiting for him with a towel? Brad? Self preservation people, self preservation.

Here is a shot of our home. We had it painted this year. It’s still new to me and I love it. We had the trim painted white and it makes all the difference in the world.

So I was down in the basement looking for my snow boots and guess what I found? The exact same heart that is on the door now. Loved it so much I bought it twice:)

So Ellie has a boyfriend. They have been smitten with each other since the first grade. It’s well known and accepted among their peers. It’s adorable and delightful and I love his mom. So all is right with the world.  But the story of the week is that he made her a skirt. Totally not kidding. He made her a skirt out of scraps of fabric. Like sewed it on a machine with a straight stitch and zigzag. Story doesn’t end there. SHE WORE IT TO SCHOOL. She hopped up in the morning. Threw on her jeans and shimmied that skirt right on up. I was poops and giggles about it.

And this would be the shot before the hair was combed…..

Spent some time with this delicious baby and I want more. I don’t have many sessions with newborns and it gave me such a high. In fact I might beg the mom for some more. We’ll see:)

February 25, 2010 - 5:33 am kim dalton - Hi. Came across your blog through Studio3z and I LOVE it. Your pictures are so beautiful. Just wanted you to know I'm your new blog stalker. Your dog looks really cute with the haircut. I have a Yorkie and we have to cut him even in the winter too. What's a mom to do? The baby picture is beyond beautiful. I've never done newborn photography and am wondering how you go about it? How do you get the baby laying so cutely. I don't think I'd want to mess with the baby. I'm working on a project for my pediatric office and I have no baby shots....duh, kinda have to have one or two of those in the mix. Any advice? Hate to ask a mom of a newbie and then go having no clue what to do. :)

February 12, 2010 - 6:39 pm lori - OK, MY skirt didn't quite look like that! Ha! Wish you could have seen your future son-in-law's face as he read your post!

February 9, 2010 - 4:43 pm Tonya - OMG....I can't wait to see more pictures of Alex!!! Of course, I am dying to go back over and snuggle him some more too!

February 9, 2010 - 11:08 am apryl - oooh, love the baby! nice shot of your husband & son, sans the crying:)

February 9, 2010 - 10:58 am Beth - love.the.skirt! Hope you're enjoying your snow day!

I HOPE MARTHA FORGETS TO READ MY BLOG TODAY

thought I would document what he eats for lunch everyday

pickiest eater alive

no chicken nugget, hot dog, grilled cheese or even mac and cheese has ever touched his lips

he wants to like pizza, tries it, totally gags it up, then talks about it for 3 days

he will only eat forms of noodles, waffles, crackers, cereal and yogurt

and this……..

WHOLE

God forbid if the delicate graham cracks in half.

February 7, 2010 - 11:36 am apryl - they say kids can survive on a pb&j and a multivitamin if that's all they'll eat, but i venture to say the whipped cream is pushing the envelope! wow mom.... what ya gonna do with that kiddo?! (he is so adorable, reminds me of my nephew. totally full of p*** & vinegar, but so darn cute you wanna eat em up!)

February 4, 2010 - 12:48 pm Robyn - Hey girl! :) Your post made me laugh - my kids are the exact same way! All of them! Imagine that! They will eat mac n cheese though - the rest is spot on. Hmmm... :)

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS FAMILY | columbus, ohio family photographer

Okay, I’m going to tell you straight up – it was FREEZING this day. FREEZING. Like not funny at all freezing. And last year during this delightful family’s session it was raining. Like not funny at all raining. POURING. But it doesn’t matter with them. They laugh and sing and dance and make the most of it. Seriously. I will be taking shots and then all of a sudden they all burst out into these college like fight songs with lots of rahs rahs! It makes me smiley and giggly. And when you ask them what and where the songs are from they have no idea. They are a whirlwind and I leave wanting more.

The main reason I had another session with them this year is because of these two new preshish additions….. My husband and I had to go back and forth and back and forth to make sure these were two different boys, lol. Super serious. You can tell they are going to be super smart. Super not interested in me and super sick the next day…. but still super duper cute:)

Love the photo on the left – it’s my favorite…..img_9795-9842

This is my girl Wendi who organizes the whole thing. We go back to her 3rd kid and my 2nd – they were in the same preschool class together. The best part of this whole day for me personally was getting these shots of her whole family. I was so doing the happy dance. You see her husband no likey getting his picture taken. And Wendi values photography big time so this was a momentous. img_9919-9930

These are Wendi’s sisters. This is the 2nd time I have been around Carlos and Julie. They live in Mexico. I have known them for probably 30 minutes of my life and love them. Carlos is one of those people that is having a fiesta at all times. Talking, laughing, dancing, singing. Taking their picture is always so funny because Julie is asking if her right eye is open (don’t ask) and Carlos is asking rapidly if his cheeks look chubby  in between 50 other rapid fire comments and questions.

February 18, 2010 - 9:01 am Melanie DeBrosse - Cathy and Brad, you are the best! I have never had so much fun in the rain and freezing cold weather getting my picture taken. I guess I am now ready to be a model! Ha! Ha! Seriously, your pictures are amazing and capture what our family is all about by letting us be ourselves and having fun. I am so thrilled that we got pictures of the twins. Yes, it was cold but so worth it! I love the one of their heads together. Only a true artist can convey the closeness of these brothers! They are keeping me on my toes and I look forward to future photo shoots with you as the boys grow older. Hopefully, they won't be drooling as much next time but they can still get an outfit wet in a matter of seconds. LOL. Thank you so much for giving our family such precious memories.

February 5, 2010 - 5:34 am Wendi Miller - Thank you for being patient with our family on this FREEZING cold day!!!!!! We love the pictures SO much and every shoot with you is amazing! You always make it fun (even in 10 degree weather:) Thank you for sharing your special talent with us every year. You rock!!!!!
