HI! I'M CATHY BLACKSTONE.

I am a Columbus based photographer and welcome to my blog.

I love to photograph babies in the tummy, babies out of the tummy, kids being good, kids being bad, kids with special needs, kids with fur, couples in love, families being themselves and seniors in between text messages :)

I have a fun and carefree style that I think you will be very comfortable with. Of course I love to take the classic picture where everyone is looking at the camera with a perfect smile but what I really love to catch is the real "in between" moments. The candid moments that you will cherish forever.

This is my photo blog where I will share favorite images from recent sessions and blab about my interests and family.

Thanks for visiting my site and taking a look. I really appreciate it.

MAC | columbus, ohio child photographer

Mac brought it. He owned it. He worked it. He came prepared. There was no warming up. No awkward first photos – just a whole lot of smiles and love. He was funny too. After about 10 shots he said “okay, all done taking pictures now”. Love that.

FOREST, DAISY and OWEN | columbus, ohio family photographer

img_1236-copyblogMeet Owen, Forest and Daisy. Our families are intertwined because Daisy and my Ellie have gone to school together since Kindergarten and because I see their daddy James everyday at the Starbucks he manages.

I have issues that are resolved everyday with my grande 3 pump, non fat, no whip white mocha:) I have tried to stop. I have guilt but then I just think and say to myself – “at least it’s not alcohol or cocaine” or “at least it’s not a shopping addiction” or  “Brad has lunch everyday in a nice cafeteria with adults”. It’s bad and I’m a little crazy but that little cup of coffee starts my day out right and that is really important when you have a 2 year old:). And seeing James everyday is a bonus because he is the nicest nicest guy with the greatest staff. He is so nice in fact that he is letting me hang some of my photos in Starbucks. That’s a big deal to me. So I called his wife (who I also adore) to see if we could secretly take some pics of the kids for Father’s Day and so that they would also be included with the set I hang at Starbucks. Very exciting.

img_0996-copyblogDaisy has the best “looking at the camera with no expression” look. Most kids can’t look at a camera and be expressionless unless you catch them off guard. I love this shot.

img_1066-copyblogThis teenage boy on a wrestling team has NO issues holding hands with his siblings. In fact the first time I met him he was holding hands with Owen walking around the school during some program. I like that, I like him, he totally ROCKS in my book.

img_1273-copyblogI keep coming back to this one. I love it. My favorite “arsty” one – I know it’s weird. Not one to give to the grandparents. But I love it. I love the grass on Owen’s shoulder. I love that Daisy is laying on top of Forest’s head.  The next one is for the grandparents………..:)

June 9, 2009 - 7:18 pm Grandma Ellis - The 4 mugwomps are adorable in these pictures. Miss USA, Sport, Miss America and squirt! Doodlebug needs to be in one of these pictures - your No.5 kid! Anyway, Grandkids are too cute for words and getting great pictures of all 4 at one time reallly is a feat! Great job. Love, Mom Oh, I might be a little partial!

May 29, 2009 - 4:44 pm Sue Campbell - How beautiful! Clearly you are a talented photographer and a gifted communicator to put people (children!) at ease so we can see their shining spirits. What a gift. Grandma Sue

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND | field trips, baseball and picnics

img_1493-copyEvery year Brad and I make sure we go on one field trip with each one of our kids.  I got to go on this one. Ellie goes to THE BEST Arts Magnet School. She literally has about 15 field trips over the course of the year. This trip was to explore downtown. I think they were studying community, city, urban, rural……… We started at the State House – stumbled on a bagpipe player practicing for the governors speech – up the Rhodes Tower to get a view of the city(so cool) – lunch at the Santa Maria – finishing off at the coolest community lofty art space that artists rent and take classes at.  Even though Brad and I make it a point to spend one on one time with the kids – there is nothing like 6 hours of holding hands walking through downtown:)

img_1573-copyAnother parent ( a dad of course) on the trip thought of this brilliant and mature idea. I jumped right in:)

img_1678-copySaturday was a double header. That means 7 hours on a baseball field. We split it up. Jackson is turning out to be quite the catcher and 3rd baseman – but is struggling hitting. It stinks. It doesn’t matter that he can scoop a ball up on 3rd and launch it over to 1st and get the other guy out – what matters is hitting. Period. A 10 year old ballplayers entire self worth is wrapped up in hitting and he is striking out big time. So by the 3rd or 4th time that he struck out – he lost it. Came unglued. Quietly sat on the edge of the dugout and the tears came pouring out.

Hard to watch. It is such a rite of passage. I want to go sit with him and rub his back:) I want to run in – hug him – and then run back out. But instead I peek around the corner – zoom in and click.

img_1748-copyEvery single one of these girls are the sisters of Jackson’s teammates. I think it is interesting that they are all so close in age. They were all hot and cute sitting on a blanket under a big tree. I love this picture. It is the other side of baseball.

img_1832-copy2This little love is finally starting to pose for pictures. We have only waited 8 1/2 years for this day to come. Woot! Woot! Little brat.

img_1842-copy2Are you kidding me? Please. Look how both of them have their hands folded.

img_1849-copy1

Have you ever seen anything so cute? Just makes me smile. I’ll share more of him later:)

May 31, 2009 - 3:44 pm Grandma Ellis - Hi honey, The picture of Jackson at the ballfield looking so dejected makes me want to cry for him. He loves baseball so much and to see him feeling so sad is really heart breaking. Your pictures bring out the real story. No words are necessary, they speak for themselves. Love, Love looking at them, especiallly of my Grandchildren!!!! Love you. Mom
