HI! I'M CATHY BLACKSTONE.

I am a Columbus based photographer and welcome to my blog.

I love to photograph babies in the tummy, babies out of the tummy, kids being good, kids being bad, kids with special needs, kids with fur, couples in love, families being themselves and seniors in between text messages :)

I have a fun and carefree style that I think you will be very comfortable with. Of course I love to take the classic picture where everyone is looking at the camera with a perfect smile but what I really love to catch is the real "in between" moments. The candid moments that you will cherish forever.

This is my photo blog where I will share favorite images from recent sessions and blab about my interests and family.

Thanks for visiting my site and taking a look. I really appreciate it.

I just finished up editing their little brothers shots and couldn’t resist posting these. They weren’t supposed to have their pictures taken but I am so glad I forced and bribed them. I love this family. Love. I wish so badly that Wendy (mom) and I were old school Indian so that we could arrange Ryan and my Brynn. I want to be related to Wendy so bad. Who knows – they just might have to end up being arranged because they are both……….hmmm………let’s put it this way – they are both very special and unique individuals.

I have to tell you the story behind Ryan’s look in the bottom shot. He is a sports fanatic. He LOVES basketball. I would love to hear him fuss with the preschool teacher (as i was dropping off Brynn) about what team was going to win this and that. Miss Jodi is a big Purdue fan and Ryan isn’t so they would get feisty with each other and for a minute you would forget that Ryan was THREE at the time. So right before I snapped the last shot I said “say basketball is stupid” (which is totally wrong and mean and confusing) but the look on his face is priceless. He wants to kill. Instead he said “basketball is awesome” in his adorable little raspy voice.

RANDOM | easter and baseball

We had a packed weekend.

Every year my parents put together a super duper fun Easter egg hunt for the kids. My kids talk about it year round. It helps that their yard is amazing and that they fill the eggs with money, lol.

img_6964This picture doesn’t do it justice. I was so lucky to have this yard as a kid – it wraps ALL the way around the house – this is just the back. My dad would be mowing and sawing every weekend. Now that I’m a big girl, with kids, and a husband that mows – all I can say is wow. This was probably a 4 hour a week job for him. Maybe 10.

img_6965Here he is looking for eggs yet to be found. This is so him. Arms behind his back – pants pulled nice and high. Many jokes have been made about this. Every single one of us – grandchildren included now –  are guilty of pulling our pants as high as we can (usually elastic pajama bottoms) and saying, “Who am I?”. Love you Dad:)

img_6966-copy

img_7042-copyThis is for my brother. I understand the meaning of “man’s best friend” when it comes to his dog. Max. Who is FIXATED on him like a border collie to a sheep.

img_7081-copyGuess what started this weekend?

img_7071-copyIf you would have told me 4 years ago that my son loved baseball, and was pretty good at it, and that I was going to put him on a travel team that was expensivish and consume about  20 hours of our week – I would have laughed at you.

img_7055-copyHe loves 3rd and he loves catching. He got to play both this weekend and made really great plays playing both. He.is.on.top.of. the.world. After playing for 6 hours in a double header he came home and threw against his bounceback and batted to himself until it was dark. So that means he played nonstop for approx. 12 hours.

img_7100-copyOne of his best friends since Kindergarten. I could get really sentimental on this one but I’ll spare you. Maybe later.

November 2, 2009 - 4:29 pm bob ellis - i love the picture of Max thanks Cathy you rock!!!

May 28, 2009 - 10:53 am Tina - He not only loves catching, he's really good at it. Which makes my husband sad he doesn't have him any more and means my son has to catch now. He's doing well, but we miss him. And you. And the family.

MICAH and SARAH | columbus, ohio engagement photographer

Brad and Micah know each other through work. They both do an amazing job making sure the boxes and packages that contain fabulous Bath and Body Works products are perty and shiny and the right color and the right size with the right words in the right font in the right place. All hell breaks lose if there is a misspelled 2pt word on the bottom of a box going to print – or if the red on the “Perfect Christmas” box is too orange, lol. I know. I’ve lived through it a couple of times.

I’ve heard things about Micah over the past couple of years. Things like that he is part Eskimo and American Indian (fascinating to a white girl from Dayton), he dresses nice, he has a girlfriend, he got engaged, his fiance works for Abercrombie (which explains his clothes)……..then when gas went up to $100 a gallon they figured out they lived close enough to each other to car pool. All I have to say is that birds of a feather flock together because Micah reminds me a lot of Brad. Easy, reserved, not much ruffles him, probably hard to pick a fight with – I wonder if he has a loading the dishwasher disability.

This session was just what I needed. The light was RIDICULOUSLY perfect. My subjects were RIDICULOUSLY easy. It is so fun to take pictures of people comfortable in their own skin and in front of a camera. They fit together perfectly. So in love, happy, fun, funny. I LOVE how Micah’s eyes shut when he laughs. I love how Sarah tries to reel him back in when he’s being silly. I love how they are always touching each other and laughing.

Sorry – I think I talked too much on this one ………I’ll shut up now and show you what I’m talking about –

img_6308-copy-2blogHere is a hilarious example of Sarah trying to reel Micah back in – look at their expressions – they speak volumes, lol. Oh and prior to this picture Sarah asked me if her arm looked fat. I about body slammed her and ate her for a snack.

six-picture-templateAt first they thought I was taking pictures of their feet – so picture #1 is what they were doing naturally – picture #2 I got busted – picture #3 is just plain one of my favorites.

img_6466-copyblogMicah has a gift. He can spread his toes like a gorilla. Sarah is going to love me for posting this. Micah isn’t going to care, heehee

img_6470-copyblogSarah is like “oh no you DI’INT” and Micah is like “oh yes I did”:)

Thank you Micah and Sarah. It was super duper fun for me to get out and spend an evening with you. We can’t wait to go to your wedding and celebrate the day with you and see all the little touches.

May 10, 2009 - 10:18 am Lisa McClain - Pictures are great Cathy..the love note cracked me up along with Brynn and Dane at the table or I should say on the table....have a great Mother's day..Brad is giving blow by blow on facebook.LOL

May 10, 2009 - 9:02 am Grandma Ellis - Happy Mother's Day These pics are so nice. Glad you captured your Dad hunting for the Easter eggs. Oh, he found 2 more while mowing last week. he is atill determined to mow all this grass by himself. We have an argument almost daily about hiring or not hiring a man to mow. Anyway, have a great day. Love you. Mom

May 8, 2009 - 8:11 pm Zoe Klopf Switzer - Micah and Sarah could not BE more gorgeous! They even have gorgeous feet...it's rediculous! Their pics are amazing. Their love is like a whole other thing in the picture. By the way...the whole 'snot shooting out the nose' thing from Jackson's comment...holy cow, I laughed myself silly about both his comment, and your response. Remember in "As Good As It Gets" when that lady says to Jack Nicholson who plays a crabby author, "How do you write women so well?" He replies, "I take a man, and I take away reason and accountability." Ha! There you have it Jackson.

April 30, 2009 - 2:04 pm Susan - Cathy..these are the MOST FANTASTIC "couple" pictures I have ever seen!!! My favorite are the 3 black and whites at the end...this couple must be thrilled!!! You are so talented...your photography has come so far in the last year...totally professional and just pure genius...it is your gift my friend! :)

April 25, 2009 - 10:16 am Rachel - ummm. Cathy. you totally ROCK. seriously....such a fun and fabulous shoot! I love the fun and love you captured :)

BUBBLES!

img_5917

i love the start of summer. i love the end of winter. i love going to Target and getting the latest and greatest bubble toys and accessories – I have to every year because they are trashed from the last year. i love the hair sticking up off of his head. i love the skull tattoo in his arm because he wanted to be just like his big brother. i love the fact that he was running around in his diaper because this is the last summer ever i will have a child running around in his diaper – that is sad and I wish I didn’t go there. and i love bubble pictures taken in the perfect light:)

April 30, 2009 - 2:08 pm Susan - I'm not sure what I like better on your site...the pictures you take or what you write underneath them...this picture is priceless...and what you wrote needs to be included underneath it, so you remember it forever. LOVE IT!!!

April 22, 2009 - 11:10 am Caroline - WOW! That picture is amazing!!! Frame-worthy, for sure!!

April 21, 2009 - 8:17 pm jamie - omg cathy! that's awesome!!! i tried to do the bubble thing yesterday, between blowing and snapping, i was so over it. yours is rad. :)
