HI! I'M CATHY BLACKSTONE.

I am a Columbus based photographer and welcome to my blog.

I love to photograph babies in the tummy, babies out of the tummy, kids being good, kids being bad, kids with special needs, kids with fur, couples in love, families being themselves and seniors in between text messages :)

I have a fun and carefree style that I think you will be very comfortable with. Of course I love to take the classic picture where everyone is looking at the camera with a perfect smile but what I really love to catch is the real "in between" moments. The candid moments that you will cherish forever.

This is my photo blog where I will share favorite images from recent sessions and blab about my interests and family.

Thanks for visiting my site and taking a look. I really appreciate it.

OUTBACKS, EYEBROWS, FRECKLES, LIGHT, WIND, LAUGHTER, SANDSACKSOCK BALLS and of course BASEBALL and BARN | may 2012 update

So Brad’s car died.

Died.

More to repair than what it was worth – it was the car I bought when we had no children people. In fact I don’t even know if I knew Brad when I bought it – but poor Brad had to take the hand me down when we had to get the mini van. He never ever liked that car:( So it was a big stinking deal to get a new car. It completely consumed every minute of our lives for 3 days. We read and researched, we test drove, we wheeled and dealed, we left, we laughed at the dealers trying to find their cars in the lot, we called our mechanic and then finally decided on the Suburu Outback. So fun to see him skip out to his car every morning. Kidding.

This is him pulling into the driveway for the first time…

Checked out Alum Creek on the only day of the whole month where nothing is written on my calendar. We had fun. Great light, soft wind, love these pics….

Dane is currently into all things camo, and I currently don’t really care what he wears out of the house really – so it’s working well for us right now:)blog11blog21How about his little fruit punchy crusty lips?img_9454blog

I wanted to take a few shots of just Brynn because she just turned NINE.img_9404blogimg_9513blogLove her freckles.img_9518blog

But then Ellie crept into the picture – love Brynn’s reaction. img_9406blog

Speaking of Ellie – boy do we get into some battles over her unibrow, lol. I’m starting to negotiate barn time if she will let me manage her eyebrows, lol.img_9413blog

And then Jackson found a nasty, dirty sock. So what does one 13 year old boy filled to the brim with testosterone do with a nasty dirty sock? Well he fills it with sand so that he can try to hit/kill/decapitate seagulls of course. Duh.

Look closely in the bottom right hand corner of the second shot:)blog31

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed saying the words ball and sand and sock and sack in as many ways as humanly and inappropriately as possible. I had to finally shut them down. Got some great shots of Ellie watching the fool though. He went to battle with those seagulls, haa!img_9507blogimg_9537blog

The money shot that required bribery.Worth it.

Sometimes people worry about Ellie because she is so quiet, when really she’s just my quiet, content, introverted and thoughtful one – and I thank my lucky stars everyday for it:)

But.

When she is at the barn she is different. Her face is different. Her posture is different. So if anyone would like to buy her a horse and pay for the boarding monthly – let me know. We need a driver too because I am about ready to poke my eyeballs out driving her there.blog61img_9684blogimg_9713blogimg_9728blog

May 3, 2016 - 5:28 am suresh garg - Nice and awesome pictures

May 10, 2012 - 12:40 pm lisa sweeney - hi cathy!! i'm a friend of brad's from hilton head - used to work at the paper with him...just wanted to say that i've read your website/blog and i am SURE that if i lived in ohio, you and i would be FRIENDS - like the kind of people who immediately like each other's sunglasses and flip flops...i am a ( former) portrait photographer - i have three boys - one adorable redhead who calls himself the "ginger ninja" and looks like he could be one of yours...AND he is a TOTAL BARN RAT!!! he is the only boy at the barn, rides western with a bunch of beautiful girls who ride english....and he has that same 'different' posture at the barn. it's in his blood...and there's no stopping it. i've told him that we won't even TALK about getting him a horse until he's 16, and even then it will be instead of a car...his response was "i'll ride it to school"....great. SO, just wanted to say how much i love your blog, your photos, your beautiful family and even your hubby....he's a GOOD ONE - and i am happy to think that he's found "a GOOD ONE" TOO!!! :-) hope to meet you on HHI one day!!

LAUREL | columbus, ohio senior photographer

I love it when high school seniors find me. It’s because they are looking for something a little different and unique and personal. I love that they searched out there in Google land and then called me. It’s a cool privilege:)

Every single Senior I have photographed so far has had very interesting quirks about them. All very comfortable in their own skin. I loved hanging with Laurel and her mom. Both of them super laid back, yet quietly strong. I felt very at home and super fulfilled driving away. Love that.

I loved this night. I remember it was the end of our session and she wanted more of her and her daughter. It was sweet. I would say one of my biggest weaknesses is remembering to take pics of individual kids alone with mom or dad. Working on that. So important. blog5Could she be any cuter? So sweet natured too. You can tell by the pics. Love her scrunched up nose when she smiled:)blog23blog31blog4

April 20, 2012 - 9:42 pm Leah LaMontagne - Love the shots of the belly with their daughter in the backgound, very nice. :)

What DC looked like

Dane’s favorite part was the hotel.

Dane called George Washington “George Washingtorn”. I never tired of hearing him say it.

I may or may not have been faced with the decision of letting him pee his pants (far far away from hotel – stuck in a metro station with no bathrooms) or holding a cup for him to pee in. That was a first for me.

Jackson taught me a ton. He is way smarter than I am when it comes to History and wars and fun little facts like… did you know if there is a statue of horse with both it’s front legs up, then that soldier died in battle? If one front leg is up then he was wounded and lived……things like that. Interesting. I accidentally raised a smart kid.

Dane calls statues “snatchoos”. I never tired of that either:)

Ellie is the most helpful child in the world. Instinctively grabs Dane’s hand when crossing streets or getting in the Metro or going down the escalator. She will make a great mother. I love that girl.

Brynn holds her own. Total trooper. Never tires. Is still running and spinning and doing ballet leaps into the air as we are all DRAGGING, barely able to make it back to the hotel. One of my favorite sounds in the world is her laughing hard.

dc1dc2dc3If you want to take great pics in DC go to the BACK of Lincoln. 500,000 people in the front – no one in the back:)dc4dc5

13 year old boys are so.much.fun.to take pictures of!

I have given up on the hat too and to make matters worse the ice cream scooper dude told him he could get anything ANYTHING off the menu, if he would give him his hat. WHAT?img_8054blog

Had to take a pic of a billion year old Moose head cause we missed our Moosey Bear!dc111

In the bottom right hand corner  of the Vietnam War Memorial is the name of Jerry Lee Pickworth – a cousin of Brad’s mom.dc12dc7dc8dc9

Moments after this photo was taken the fountain swallowed our stroller, 6 jackets, a cell phone, 2 memory cards, a purse and tons of snacks. A strong gust of wind blew it in. Everything drenched in 2 seconds. I was so relieved it wasn’t a child or my camera that I didn’t even care.img_8404blog
