All children home (2 off in college somewhere, 2 in NYC working in the real world), so it was time for some family pics!
Mamma wanted everyone to be dressed up. Like suit and tie dressed up. Scared me.
Everyone is older and mature and doesn’t need to be chased or sung to. Scared me.
Mom’s sister is a photographer – so she knows photography and the right time of day for pictures. Scared me.
Got there and within 5 minutes I was in my element. All fear out the door. Loved this family. Great energy. It was fun because it was different.
I will always remember our talk at the end about how if you hang in there it all works out. The fighting, the worries, the ups and downs of a large family…..it works itself out. I think I had a particularly hard evening the night before with Jackson – so it was still fresh:) I could have stayed and asked them questions and listened to their answers all day. They were insightful and real, and I love real.

I call this my high end photo booth shot:) Love it when people are squished and faces are cut off – not one to send to the grandmas though! No one in the grandparents generation embraces tilted, any kind of blur, or any face cut off. Just beautiful horizontal perfectly centered whole body photos for them! But, I love how the focus is on just mom and dad here…this is the one I would keep in my wallet.

Love her head shot – something about her shoulders and the tilt of her head – my favorite I’ve taken so far. Couldn’t recreate it if I tried.
They made some stunning children. Good DNA running through these genes…

Last but not least, my “album cover shot”. They worked it!
I am the photographer that only took pics of one of her kids on the first day of school this year. Very sad. I’m going to try and take shots of the other 3 this week because it is fun to look back on them. Whenever “milestone” moments arise (birthday, first day of school) I get super disappointed with myself and feel so guilty about how disorganized my personal photos are. It would be so cool to look back on and have first day of school pictures perfectly organized and in perfect order in an adorable little album. Sigh. Okay – have to stop thinking about it.
We decided to have Dane experience one more year of preschool because once you have four kids you realize that there is no rush. I think the benefits of being an older kid in your class outweigh being a younger kid. Plus I’m not going to lie, going through the hell of having a child struggle through school is so so hard. So I am all for waiting as long as possible to put Dane in school – I often wonder how Brynn would be doing if she had one more year. Tough call.
Anyway – here we are on our car ride. He was asking me if I would rather be eaten by an alligator or a shark. I said shark. He disagreed and was frustrated. At this point I was counting down the seconds to our goodbye – I could almost hear the angels playing their harps. Almost.
All boy class this year:)
Here is where I almost got sad because he was so cute sitting there working on his name. So cute and clean and adorable with his baby soft cheeks that I can kiss all day. It’s looking like his pencil holding skills need some review.
The drive home. The quiet. Already feeling more balanced. Angels harps ON BLAST at this point.
