HI! I'M CATHY BLACKSTONE.

I am a Columbus based photographer and welcome to my blog.

I love to photograph babies in the tummy, babies out of the tummy, kids being good, kids being bad, kids with special needs, kids with fur, couples in love, families being themselves and seniors in between text messages :)

I have a fun and carefree style that I think you will be very comfortable with. Of course I love to take the classic picture where everyone is looking at the camera with a perfect smile but what I really love to catch is the real "in between" moments. The candid moments that you will cherish forever.

This is my photo blog where I will share favorite images from recent sessions and blab about my interests and family.

Thanks for visiting my site and taking a look. I really appreciate it.

CHRISTMAS 2009

Our 3 days of solid Christmas is finally over. I am so grateful every Christmas and feel so lucky that my kids are loved and taken care of by the grandparents and cousins but I am so glad it’s over. I feel terrible for writing that. I’ve read other blogs and comments on Facebook about Christmas and wonder if they’re lying about being relaxed and happy, lol. I think I am a super laid back person but not at this time of year. I will fully admit that being a procrastinator doesn’t help. At all. I will own it. I can only start to work or shop or shower if I am behind or late. Wonderful quality. AND I also can’t work or function unless I have an impossible to do list. Two super duper fantastic qualities wrapped up in one person. Lucky lucky Bradley Wayne (husband).

I did manage to take some fun little images though……

My favorite ornament. Brad and I have collected roosters way before they became popular. There are 3 of them in our family crest. We even planned on getting rooster tattoos on our honeymoon – then chickened out. Nice pun. Every year I get him a new one – this one is from about 5ish years ago. It falls under the “super sad if lost or ruined” category.

We make so many sugar cookies at Christmas. It is my weakness. I eat them for breakfast.

img_9420-copyimg_9441-9486img_9497-9513They look so cute laughing don’t they? Well. They are laughing at Jackson singing about Santa pooping, peeing and farting on his sleigh. Nice. The only reason I didn’t shut him down was for the sake of the picture:)

How cute is my husband? He loves Chritsmas. He doesn’t stress (because he doesn’t have to shop with Dane). And he decorates. This year he dug out our terrariums and put disco balls and those pine tree things in them. Love that about him.

img_9668Diego before his death by train. I was wondering what the boys were laughing at so hard.

And we had two super successful crafts this year. Heehee. We made villages out of sculpey and bowls made out of glass crystals. So all you moms out there – remember that:)

December 30, 2009 - 8:52 pm Tina - I love your posts (and your pics) Cathy, because I think, "well thank God someone else feels/acts/behaves that way!" My favorite part of Christmas was when it was over and we were all sitting down after dinner watching 'Up'. And the last picture of Moose made me laugh out loud.

December 30, 2009 - 11:43 am Alicia - I love all of your Christmas pics... Also, I wanted to thank you for the beautiful pics of Ryan. I will cherish them always. They were best Christmas gift ever for me. Love them! Much Happiness to you and the family in the New Year!

December 29, 2009 - 5:12 pm lisamcgarvey@mac.com - Love these shots. I must ask - what lens do you use for those gorgeous pictures inside. Im having a really hard time with the lens I use for low light. Curious what you use.

December 29, 2009 - 4:56 pm apryl - cute shots...and what is it with boys and poop, pee & farts? you are so smart to capitalize on it - i would never have thought about it that way! totally understand how you feel about christmas - i literally said, outloud at my family's party (late in the day) "i am so glad this day is over!" it wasn't meant to be mean, i just cannot relax about those things!!! hope you had a great holiday:)

December 29, 2009 - 11:46 am Jennifer Ingram - I have to have the one of moose in the hat! Really need to make that into an ornament!

December 28, 2009 - 4:14 pm Beth - Loved them all~ but Moose in the hat is the best!

OPERATION WATCH DANE MORE CLOSELY in the mornings

img_9190has begun.

The funniest part? I had no idea he had done this until I took off his jammies to change his diaper:)

January 6, 2010 - 5:04 pm Grandma Ellis - I have laughed myself to death seeing Doodlebug with Santa Hat and Christmas lights. So funnty! Love, Mom

December 22, 2009 - 9:05 pm Caroline - Such a boy! He looks SO much like Brynn in these pictures...it's scary!

December 20, 2009 - 3:56 pm Cheryl France - Kelly did same thing around this age. Have picture of her at the dining room table with her art work all over her chest, stomach and arms.

December 18, 2009 - 6:58 am Wendi Miller - soo funny! love it!

BOOKMARK MY TURKEY:)

I forgot to show you the rockstar turkey I made. Who needs flowers for their centerpiece? Pshaw. It’s made out of a melon, pear, grapes, carrots, peppers and cheeses cubes and held together by toothpicks and skewers. The hardest part was finding the skewers in the grocery store. He was the talk of the town and got gobbled up. Serious awesomeness. Got the idea off of Familyfun.com:)img_58681

Love watching these two. Everytime we get a toy catalog they spend about an hour circling all the toys they want and get none of them, lol. Mean mommy.

Leaving tomorrow for NYC. So lucky. So excited. Can’t WAIT to see their faces when they see things. Can’t wait to take pictures.

Absolutely sick about leaving Dane though. SICK. When we all say goodbye and get in the car he is going to loose.his.mind.

December 29, 2009 - 5:25 pm Janel - How could you leave that precious little Dane home?! How much trouble could he be? lol Love that finally I know someone else who takes pics of their tree ornaments and decorations. Now I know I'm not crazy. ;)

December 23, 2009 - 9:13 pm Christopher Schaffer - Cathy...I"m very impressed by your talent...truly kissed by God. You have a masterful eye that allows the viewer to immerse themselves within the photograph; to feel as though one were intimately apart of the lives so elegantly captured in that fraction of time.

December 10, 2009 - 8:54 pm Caroline - The turkey is SO cute! I wish I knew about your hunt for the skewers...I have like 3 huge bags of them (no idea why) and no intentions of using them anytime soon! Oh well.... Have a BLAST in NYC! I'm jealous! I keep saying we will go to the next Macy's Tday parade. One day.... Dane will be fine....you'll appreciate his mischief a little more when you get home ;)

December 10, 2009 - 6:12 am Kim Whybrew - Have a great time Cathy!! You will have so much fun. Dane will be fine; he won't remember it, he will have fun playing, you will be able to RELAX!! Its all good. Cannot wait to see your pictures when you get back.

December 9, 2009 - 3:40 pm Jennifer Ingram - He will be FINE!!! He won't remember 2 years from now. You and the rest of the family will remember the great time you had!!!

THE HEFNER FAMILY | columbus, ohio family photographer

I am so behind blogging – ack! In a perfect world I have a session. Edit. Blog my favorites. Finish. Slideshow. Burn to disc and deliver. In a ridiculously busy world Brad is on the computer every night helping me finish up sessions and the only time I can blog is during the day. HAA! One word. I’ll give you a hint. He’s 3. Dane.

So meet the Hefner family. The whole shebang. Two sisters and a brother make up the bunch with their spouses and 2 kiddos each because they weren’t courageous and crazy enough to have 4. Just kidding. What I should really say is that they are all of higher intelligence.  Anyway, I was contacted by Lara to primarily take pics of the grandkids. I was all over that. Even though the harsh ridiculous sun wasn’t my friend that night and I looked like an idiot searching in remote corners for shade next to bathrooms – I had a great time. Great family. Good kids.

First shot – grandpa with the kids.

I can’t imagine being close and liking my cousins growing up. I’m thinking really hard right now if any of my cousins read my blog……:). I liked them. Good people but different planets. We certainly would never have our pictures taken every year and jump and roll around and touch each other.

img_3775-3906img_4172-4158img_4436-4428Love both these shots of the girls.

This is the Shepherd family. I had to know what Kelly (the dad) did. I knew he didn’t sit behind a desk and sure enough he was in road construction. So I opened my big mouth and said something like “you need to get some of your buddies together and we’ll make a calendar”. I don’t even know why I say things like that. Trying to be funny I guess. I’m not even one of those girls that ever once had a calendar with men throughout. But for some reason whenever I’m around big guys or heaven forbid a fireman I say the stupidest things. Well next thing you know (because we had some little ears listening when I said that), Cathy (me) wants to shoot Kelly naked with a few of his friends for a calendar. NICE. Very funny though.

img_4056-4553img_4085-blog

Next up the Grone family. Look very closely at the dad. When I was editing it made me do a quick petite little scream and call Brad (husband) to come look. I’m sure Mike is OVER it, but he has one blue eye and one brown eye and if I ever take his picture again I am going to think of something creative to do because that is super cool:) Great family. Fun kids.img_4499-4535img_4481-4437

Last but not least the Hefner family. Will did not love me but Jake did. Jake would do anything I asked him to do. Loved getting his picture taken. Silly. Now Will. He needed to turn his frown upside down, lol. He was game but not happy about it. While I was taking his alone shot his dad was behind me with his arms crossed going “smile Will, Will smile, smile, Will smile, smile Will” over and over again in this monotone voice until he finally cracked Will and made him smile. It was very funny. Great strategy dad:)

Some more grandkid shots….img_4383-blogimg_4379_1-blog

And I have to put in my favorite outtake. I love catching kids acting like kids. One of my favorite parts about my job is catching the shots you remember in your head forever but would never enlarge and put on your wall. Do you know how funny this shot is going to be in 20 years?img_4406-blog1

Thank you Hefner family. Hopefully this can become an annual tradition:)

December 8, 2009 - 2:34 pm Beth - Great pictures Cath! Love family pics.
