I know you are thinking, what??
The first time I ever had a session with this fantastic family this is what I said to myself all the way over in the car and it will probably be stuck in my head forever. In fact it is really Zoe as in toe, Tayo like mayo and Kai as in bye:) And then there is Leo that doesn’t really rhyme with anything but his name came easy for me because it was one of our baby boy names. It is funny for me to think of how challenging their names were at first. Now they roll effortlessly off my tongue and fit them perfectly. I can’t imagine Tayo being a Jim, lol.

I truly love spending time with this family. They have a great vibe. Their house is a home. They adore their kids. Totally easy and laid back but firm and exhausted, lol. Like me:) Their boys are adorable…..

If they look familiar it’s because Zoe and Leo are up in my banner. He is the little baby looking so cute and wide-eyed, it is one of my favorite images ever ever ever. I can’t believe how much he’s changed. I can’t believe how much I need to update my banner!

I never knew how many kids stuck their tongue out when they jumped until I started taking photos. Hilarious.

Zoe. Girl. You are ferosh. You wear the perfect color of lipstick. You have a great style. You are easy on the eyes sister. And Tayo. I love how you quietly watch your family. I love how you pause for a whole 2 seconds after you kiss Zoe and look at her. I would too, lol.

love this………

So Jessi emailed me wanting family photos because she too is a photographer that has no photos of herself with her family, lol. Most photographers fall under the plumber with the leaky pipes category. My first reaction after reading her email was hellz no! I completely turned 13 in my head and felt very inadequate. I knew her camera would be bigger. I knew she would have more lenses. I knew she would be smarter and more savvy. I knew she would think I was a spaz……but then after about 5 minutes I decided to be 39 again and mature and take it on. SCARY though. Like almost made me say a prayer before the session scary. But it all worked out. Good people. Fantastic kids. Great parents.

Let me tell you something about taking pics of another photographer……she knows exactly how and where to plop her body down according to the light (i love her hands in the above photos). She went a little cuckoo about location (exactly like I did for our family photos). We didn’t need to exchange 5 emails concerning outfits. And if a dinosaur HAD to be in a picture on the stairs above everyones heads – she knew it was an easy photshop fix and wasn’t concerned with it:)
Let me tell you about taking pics of a photographers kids…..you don’t have that initial 15 minutes of “I’m scared of you and will do whatever you tell me to do” period. They brought their favorite toys and looked adorable.

One of my all time favorite things to do is catch a mom looking at her kids. Jessi you look beautiful in this shot and I love it that you are watching your kids. Jessi is also a librarian and her husband is a teacher. I bet my sentence structure and grammar makes them absolutely crazy.
The end:)
It has been so much fun getting to know Pam and James and their boys. Her Joe and my Jackson play on the same baseball team. Pam is one of those mammas that is so genuinely nice, always in a good mood and incredibly attentive to her boys. I adore her. Even when she is in the middle of a conversation she knows exactly when Joe is up to bat and pauses and cheers AND she is always aware of where her other son is, as any good mother should. Now me on the other hand misses half of Jackson’s plays and only knows where my 3 year old is forgetting that I even have two other children. Sad.
I was so excited for this session. They have a beautiful home and the boys are so fun together. I love boys so much. They are always up to pranks and pinching butts and running and laughing and making noises – these two were no exception……

Joey’s faces and expressions put me in the best mood.
Here is the whole fabulous family….

I love how you look at your boys Pam. I love how they plop down into your petite little lap and hug on you and lean into you. LOVE that. It might get drive you crazy sometimes but unfortunately it’s not that common. You are in so much trouble when they get older. They are going to squash you.

I love this one of the two of you…..there is something so sincere and content about it.

the end:)
Let me tell you something about this family that I’ve had the pleasure of photographing three times now. Julia sews. Like old school. We are talking a machine with a bobbin and thread. She picks out the coolest fabric, finds a pattern, and sews Elodie’s skirts (or jumpers) and THEN matches everyone else’s outfit around her for our sessions. I love her. It’s like a present to me. I love to see what she picks because back in the day (like a year ago, lol) when I worked for craft magazines I was in the know with my fabrics. In fact I ran into Amy Butler once at Target (looking like a mess complete with a giant Diet Coke stain on my knee from wiping up the floor courtesy of a 2 year old) and still felt the need to introduce myself so that I could tell her how much I loved her fabrics and color palettes. It made my face turn red and she just stood there – so nice and gracious – looking like a 6 foot goddess in her luscious orange sweater, one of a kind dangly earrings and I would say at least $800 riding boots over skinny jeans (ahead of the curve).
Sidetrack!

How adorable is she? The second I saw her I knew exactly what wall to go to – oh – and by the way – these were taken in the Short North. I love the feel and textures of the city. Thank you so much for trusting me and driving all the way down there.away.from.the.comfort.of.trees:) It was so fun to walk around with you.

I love the one on the right. something about it. Love how you look in it Julia:)
Are you ready for the next one? Tell me you love me. Tell me I’m beautiful. Tell me I’m a princess (this is what I make my kids say before I do something amazing)..

the end…
