HI! I'M CATHY BLACKSTONE.

I am a Columbus based photographer and welcome to my blog.

I love to photograph babies in the tummy, babies out of the tummy, kids being good, kids being bad, kids with special needs, kids with fur, couples in love, families being themselves and seniors in between text messages :)

I have a fun and carefree style that I think you will be very comfortable with. Of course I love to take the classic picture where everyone is looking at the camera with a perfect smile but what I really love to catch is the real "in between" moments. The candid moments that you will cherish forever.

This is my photo blog where I will share favorite images from recent sessions and blab about my interests and family.

Thanks for visiting my site and taking a look. I really appreciate it.

ISHAAN (and family) | 9 months | columbus, ohio family photographer

This is the little baby laying on the foot of the bed up in my blog banner. One of the things that I absolutely love about being a photographer is watching kids and families grow. It sounds super corny but it really is a privilege. The jump from 5 – 9 months is crazy. He’s lost his chub, he’s curious, he sits up and he’s scrumptious. Meet Ishann ….

img_0200-copylow1He had just gotten out of the car – waking up – getting kisses from mamma and he looked over at me and gave me this. Just try not to look at his perfect skin, curled up lips and cute little earlobes. Just try.

img_0240-copylow1This is his brother Taj. Let me tell you about Taj. He’s 5 and he’s allllllll boy and if you listen closely you can hear the theme song to the Indiana Jones movie. He’s obsessed. I’m surprised he didn’t bring along his whip. I love this kid. We got to spend some time together while Rashmi was getting Ishaan out of the car. Let me give you a snippet of our conversation … “this is my marathon shirt, it makes me run fast like this”, “what’s that building over there?” “what’s inside of it?”, “are there lions in these woods?”  “what do they eat?”, “the sun is in outer space Miss Cathy – are you Miss Cathy? (he asked me about 3 times because the last time I saw him I darkened my hair)”, “my grandpa walks on a walker (right as we are passing a grandma using a walker) but now he uses a cane because he had to have surgery and the doctors put a metal bar in his leg”. It’s sad when your kids grow out of this phase. I might be sad now. I’m going to try to embrace questions today.

img_0314-copy1I love capturing relationships. Guru was telling Taj a story. I put the second picture in for you Rashmi because Guru is looking fine! Humina humina.

Speaking of Rashmi I pronounced her name wrong for 8 months. Glad we cleared that up. It’s pronounce “Rushmi” people! Here is one I think she’ll like …

Good people. The kind of family that restores your faith that people are good in this world. Great parents. Great dad. There is nothing more attractive than a great dad is there? We found each other through Moose (our furry child). Pat owns and operates Dogwatch Hidden Fence company. Moose is now contained – thank.you.very.much. I enjoyed talking to Emily – his wife – setting things up. It was our only adult conversation of the day so sometimes what could have been a 5 minute conversation turned into a 30 minute conversation, lol. They were so excited to have their pictures taken. Photographers love that. They also were so appreciative and complimentary and their girls were darling. Maggie is in the “yackity yack yack yack NO yackity yack yack NO” stage and Genna is in the “I’m going to sit here and smile because I’m so stinking cute” phase. I could totally just shoot only 9 month olds and be really really good at it!

My favorite …… love the sun, how candid it is, the look on Genna’s face

June 8, 2009 - 8:10 pm Emily West - Darn it, Cathy. I just watched our slide show again, three months later and cried AGAIN! Had to look over your whole site and all the new pictures. You are truly amazing. Love the latest pics of the kids. And the tribute to Brad...wow!

March 23, 2009 - 8:18 pm Emily West - Cathy, love the pictures. Can't wait to see the rest! You are wonderful at what you do! We'll be in touch...

I was asked to take pictures of the Christian rock band “downhere”. Way out of my comfort zone but I was intrigued because I was asked to spend the day with them and shoot it like a “rockumentary”. I couldn’t resist. So I channeled Annie Liebovitz and had the best time. I had forgotten how inspiring things like this were – the songs – the message within the songs – the message between the songs – the dedication. I grew up going to a lot of church concerts so I felt at home. Tons of talent. Humbling talent. American Idol top 3 type of talent.

I will have more images later but wanted to put up a sneak peek. Downhere has quite a few fans looking for images! If you are a fan looking for the pictures I took after the show – shoot me an email. I can edit and get those to you quickly. So don’t forget – look for an upcoming post showing more of how the day went.
